Junior Sailing Class Program |
|
This multi-week day camp is for older children from 9 to 16 years of age. This curriculum takes children from any sailing level and broadens their knowledge, skill, and confidence.
Instructors begin with safety procedures and an on-the-water swim test. Students are then divided up according to their abilities (beginner, intermediate, advanced). As the course continues, competencies include safety on the water, knot tying skills, successfully rigging a boat, docking a boat, capsizing and recovery, helmsman ship, sail trim, rounding a buoy, racing protocol and strategies. First timers will learn the basics in a hands-on program designed to build confidence. Intermediate and experienced sailors can enhance and refine their skills under a variety of different sailing conditions and day races.
Our fleet provides for a wide range of sailing experiences. The Optimist is an international favorite, ideal for younger children just learning to sail, or young sailors who wish to race competitively. The two-man 420 has become a club favorite among those student sailors who prefer to sail in tandem. So, whatever the temperament of your child, we have a boating combination that is sure to be a good fit.
